Former LSU Player Tyrann Mathieu Enters Drug Rehab in Life-Changing Decision
According to a Yahoo! Sports Blog, Tyrann Mathieu recently made the life-changing decision to enter drug rehab and come out better on the other side. The former LSU player decided to begin treatment in a drug rehab center to work on issues that caused him to be dismissed from his college football career at LSU.
Louisiana State recently parted ways with Mathieu after he failed several drug tests. The young player decided not to search for a new team to play for in this Fall football season but rather made a smart decision to begin drug rehab.
A New Orleans Fox News affiliate reported that Mathieu had been in Houston in a drug rehab facility and will continue to be there for an undetermined time period. Former NBA player, John Lucas operates the Right Step Recovery Center in Houston and reached out to offer help to Mathieu after his LSU dismissal. It is reported that Mathieu has been in treatment for a marijuana addiction. At least Mathieu is responding to some types of mentoring.
When former LSU safety and current NY Jets player LaRon Landry tried to repeatedly reach out to Mathieu he eventually stopped getting responses in return. Landry believes he became caught up in "living the life".
Mathieu’s family agrees with Landry and that is why they are now using this time to help Mathieu focus just on himself and not on football or any of the pressures surrounding the sport. When Mathieu is finally released from drug rehab there may still be a possibility that he could take classes and rejoin his LSU team for the 2013 season.
